Mars Youth Lacrosse Senior Scholarship
The Mars Youth Lacrosse Association often represents the beginning of lacrosse for many of our Mars High School lacrosse players, where they first picked up a stick and developed their skills to learn this great game. It’s been exciting to see the evolution of the Mars lacrosse program but more importantly, to witness our Alien Attack players contribute to the Mars High School program through their senior year. Whether playing for the section championships, WPIAL title games, or participating in the PIAA tournament, all these experiences have been our collective program’s goals.
We value every player that has come thru our organization and are pleased to introduce the annual Mars Youth Lacrosse Senior Scholarship. This scholarship will be granted each year to a graduating high school senior lacrosse player in recognition of the values of Mars Youth Lacrosse: Safety, Sportsmanship, Fun, Learning and Success. Additionally, the following pre-requisites must be met for consideration:
- Must have played in the Mars Youth Lacrosse program
- Must be a current member of the Mars High Lacrosse program
- Must achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must show leadership examples on and off the field
- Must demonstrate sportsmanship in all athletics
- Must have a good disciplinary record with the school
- Community Service activities are a plus
- Provide a short-written essay of their Mars Youth Lacrosse experience
Seniors will need to complete an application and provide a written essay (300 words or less) on the topic of how their Mars Youth Lacrosse experience helped shape the person they are today, including details of games, players, coaches, or anything to describe their involvement. A brief interview session will also take place with a sub-committee of Mars Youth Lacrosse Board Members and a representative at-large.
The winner will be announced at the Mars High Lacrosse banquet and receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward expenses in their upcoming freshman year in college.
